There are issues in our history that eventually hit a flash point. Before that point finally came, it was still an issue – it just lived a little more silently under the radar of the masses. I would like to emphasis that the issue didn’t just become an issue, it was always there.
This means people were still confused, still feeling rejected, still hurting, but hurting quietly. This can be hard to grapple with and relate to when we aren’t the ones dealing with it. Sure we have our issues and we think we deal with them and wonder why others can’t just buck up and deal with their stuff.
One thing I’ve learned in my reading and studying is a profound yet very simple phrase,
That’s it! Two words. People cope. And if you’re honest you will see this in your own life. Some coping has hurt you, other things you look back and see how it helped you. Maybe your choice was destructive and you would now agree that it was wrong. But are you able to see some things you learned out of it? Was God able to bring clarity through it?
Parents, Riots, Gays
In this video we will look at how flash points in these three words: parents, riots, gays, should push us toward something. Usually these flash points do push us but in the wrong direction. They should push us to understand with compassion and listen, but usually we end up going in the exact wrong direction – never helping or solving anything – just more division and pain.
“Something More” is staring us right in the face asking if we will stop, pay attention and listen.
